At this week’s Apple Glowtime event, Apple unveiled some significant changes with the new AirPods 4 and AirPods Max. One of the most notable updates is that the new AirPods 4 will come with USB-C charging cases. However, it has been officially confirmed that the USB-C charging cable will not be included in the box. Interestingly, this does not apply to the new AirPods Max.
AirPods Max Excites, AirPods 4 Disappoints
While Apple did not mention the absence of the charging cable during the event, the rationale behind this move seems quite clear. The company probably assumes that most users already have USB-C cables.
Previously, AirPods models came with a Lightning port charging case, so existing users typically have Lightning cables. Now, these users will need to purchase an additional USB-C cable to use the new AirPods 4.
Apple’s strategy of not including such accessories in the packaging has become a standard practice. The company started selling its devices without charging adapters years ago and removed the USB cable from the Apple TV’s Siri remote in 2022.
However, as mentioned earlier, the latest version of AirPods Max still includes a charging cable. This indicates that Apple does not want to burden users with the need to purchase a charging cable for some of its high-end products.
